PERSONALITY

Haru Okumura's upbringing as the daughter of a fabulously wealthy CEO has shaped the way she interacts with others considerably. While she conducts herself with the well-mannered grace and poise befitting someone of her stature, and often behaves cordially, the majority of her interpersonal relationships were founded upon uncertainty. With no way of differentiating who genuinely wanted to grow closer to her and who was simply trying to get in her father's good graces, Haru began to take each of her social interactions with some degree of skepticism. Accordingly, she learned to keep others at arms' length, only letting people in to the extent necessary.

In spite of this mistrust (or perhaps out of a desire to treat others the way she'd like to be treated), Haru is a genuinely kind soul, with an acute sense of right and wrong. Inspired by her late grandfather, who ran a small cafe with a highly positive reputation for homeliness despite its financial instability, Haru values altruism and generosity quite highly. Further, from a young age, Haru found herself drawn to the exploits of selfless heroines, voices for the voiceless who championed the weak and stood against all manner of injustice. It was this desire to stick up for "the little guy" that drove her desire to assist the downtrodden Morgana as the "Beauty Thief," after she had been led to believe that he'd been pushed around by the Phantom Thieves. Even once that misunderstanding is rectified, it's Haru's hunger and thirst for righteousness (particularly in the face of her father's avarice) that spurs her to properly join the Thieves under the mantle "Noir;" a title she intentionally chooses to remind herself that she is a vigilante who acts on the "dark side" of the law.

In joining the Phantom Thieves, the soft yet distant Haru finally comes to find a group of people she is certain appreciate her for who she is and her passions, rather than for her father's wealth. As a result, Haru treats them with the utmost sincerity and loyalty, and is quick to drop her high formalities; she refuses to allow the younger members to call her "senpai," and calls each of them by affectionate honorifics. In spite of a shaky start, the support of the Thieves allows her to begin breaking down her walls and confiding in others. Even after the untimely death of her father, which leaves Haru as the majority shareholder of his corporation, Haru is inspired by the strength of her teammates and begins to take steps towards speaking sincerely to those she would otherwise be reticent with.

Though her activities in the Metaverse as Noir embolden her to a degree, granting her the independence and courage she's dreamed of throughout the years spent under her father's thumb, there's no denying that Haru has lived a sheltered life. As a result, she has her moments of naivete, and her view of the world around her is a bit colored by her luxurious background. She particularly enjoys seeing how the other half lives, and isn't above splurging a bit on the people she cares about. However, Haru is most certainly aware that not all that glitters is gold. All of the money in the world would not give Haru what she's come to appreciate most in her life, be it her friends, or her freedom. With a dream of carrying on her grandfather's legacy and making people around Japan smile with her own home-grown coffee beans, Haru walks her own path at last, having finally found her own value and radiance.

Like the other Phantom Thieves, Haru has the ability to manifest a unique "Persona," a spirit embodying her inner thoughts and feelings. This spirit, which Haru calls Lucy, fights alongside her in battle and symbolizes her will of rebellion. More akin to "another self" than a companion or a supernatural servant, one's Persona represents the mask they present to the world in order to conquer hardship; these Personas grant their users the strength to wrest control of their fates back from those who have wronged them.

☕ First Impressions

✿ VISUAL: Haru is a Japanese young woman, standing at 158 cm (around 5'2'')! Lithe and a touch on the dainty side, Haru has a physique befitting a former dancer — though she's been out of practice for some time. She has naturally curly (fluffy, even!) chin-length auburn hair, fair skin, and light brown eyes.

✿ FASHION: Haru tends to wear softer colors: pinks, lavenders, and baby blues! As expected of a wealthy girl, her sense of style is more chic than not, and she's fairly considerate of her appearance. Her trademark is a cozy pink cardigan with a turtleneck collar. Her Phantom Thief outfit is loosely inspired by the "musketeers" of 17th century France; she dons a black domino mask, a plumed cavalier hat, and a black corset vest over a pink blouse. Each of the Thieves wears a unique color of gloves, not unlike a team of powerful rangers — Haru's color of choice is purple!

✿ DEMEANOUR: Well-mannered and courteous, though a bit soft-spoken. She carries herself with grace and dignity, moves with intention and awareness of her body (she's conducted many a tea ceremony!), and rarely speaks out of turn. While she has a calming way about her, she flusters a touch more easily than she might like.

✿ SOUND: Here's a sampling of some of her voice lines throughout the game, just to give an idea of what she sounds like. Her seiyuu is Haruka Tomatsu (Sword Art Online's Asuna Yuuki, TYPE-MOON's Aoko Aozaki, and Horimiya's Kyoko Hori, among others). Notably, as Noir, she tries to obscure the sound of her voice just slightly, dipping into a deeper alto as she dons her mask.

✿ SCENT: Often floral, whether it's from perfume or natural! She spends a fair bit of time with her hands in fertilizer.

✿ MENTAL INFORMATION: She's actually fairly resistant to abilities of a psychic nature, due to her powers! However, I'm more than happy to handwave that for the sake of an interesting thread with a mind-reader. If you're not sure, just ask!

✿ MAGICAL INFORMATION: In the Metaverse (and certain other circumstances, if the conditions are just right), Haru can instantaneously perform a costume change to don her Phantom Thief duds, and call upon the power of a Persona. Akin to a spirit that fights alongside the user, one's Persona is manifestation of her innermost thoughts and feelings, and symbolizes her "will of rebellion." Haru's unique Persona, called Lucy, can both attack enemies using psychic powers and and protect allies by mounting invisible walls. Notably, Haru does not have the ability to use Lucy's psychic skills to read minds!

✿ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Generally, hit me up first, if it's for anything other than a minor tussle! It's pretty unlikely that she'll initiate a fight with anyone herself, but she may intervene and try to defuse a violent situation, if she happens to see one...
